In the 1980s, Sun Xun, a Chinese-American hotel housekeeper, encounters Zhen Yi, whose background and whereabouts are mysterious, in New York. There seems to be some commonality between them, prompting Sun Xun to leave decisively when affected by anti-Chinese sentiment, searching for what the various visions after meeting Zhen Yi point towards.

For them, the ultimate homecoming cannot be equated with the place of physical birth; everyone carries a nostalgia directed inward, needing to reorient their personal constellation with all their life experiences and insights.
